Tell us about yourself. Where are you from? How old are you? How did you get into the Crossfit community? and anything else you would think it is interesting!

Introduce Yourself Here! Empty A little bit about me =)

Post  chick Tue Nov 17, 2009 11:01 pm

Nik you're so cute! so it's me, Emily with brown hair, not to be confused with the other Emily who has red hair. I'm 20 and from Hamburg, a suburb just south of Buffalo. Crossfit is pretty much consuming my life, I love to work hard like we do every day because it makes me feel pretty damn good. Even though I feel like I suck half the time, I know that I am "glacierly" improving Wink If it weren't for Zach being so persistent I wouldn't have found you crazy people because he had been talking it up for weeks before I finally made it in. I'll never go back to a "normal" gym again. Ever. Thanks for the site Nik!

I am CJ and my only goal is to beat Hubie as often as possible. A sub set of that goal is to make him nervous that I will make good on my promises if he calls me the H word again.

Great job Nik. I'm John (also known as CJ to some people, namely Emily Smile ). I started Crossfit almost a year ago with the intention of going once or twice a week to supplement my climbing regimine. A year later, and I have cut my climbing down significantly, and replaced it with Crossfit. It beats the climbing gym for sure.

Post  RedHeaded_Stepchild Wed Nov 18, 2009 2:49 pm

Hey everyone - I'm Dan - the red head of the group. New to Crossfit and have recently celebrated my first month of this madness. I like to WOD but I don't like to puke. I like to work hard but I don't like to run. And I have the flexibility of an 80 year old man with arthritis.

A big thanks to Nik for setting this up. My boss would like to thank you in advance, as well, for the drop in productivity we are about to see in my work.

Post  Hubie Fri Nov 20, 2009 1:19 pm

Hello all. You all know me by different names, but I answer to Hubie. I've been crossfitting since February 2009. Holy crap has my life changed.

I went from a person who was once told by his high school basketball coach, "You are the biggest waste of talent I have ever seen in Lorain County." (My HS coach won 2 state titles while coaching in Lorain Co.) Now I refuse to let anyone out work me, even if it is 15 years too late.

Crossfit has allowed me to:
To understand and pursue world class fitness ([You must be registered and logged in to see this link.])
Achieve physical and mental goals that I never thought possible at my age.
Trim my chubby 245-250 lbs self to 220-225 lbs.
Understand the true meaning of functional movements and how to train it.
Exploit my weaknesses, train them to become strengths.
And more important then all other things, Crossfit has allowed me to find a group of friends in a place the I moved to not knowing one person. I cannot express enough how much the community at CFB has meant to me. Some of these friendships will last a lifetime.

I want to thank all of you who have completed even one WOD. You inspire, motivate, and push me to learn more everyday. Also, thanks for letting me help coach you. I owe it to everyone in the crossfit community to share everything it has given me.

I'm Barb, the grandmother of the group. I'm over 60, and I'vs been working with Dave for three years, after 30 years of no exercise at all. Crossfit has been great, challenging me to try things I never thought I could do. I've gained a lot of strength and lost nearly 50 pounds. If I could stop eating sweets, I could loose the othe 50 I need to get rid of. I have been really supported and encouraged by everyone at crossfit. Thanks.

Introduce Yourself Here! Empty Newman

Post  Newman Mon Nov 23, 2009 8:27 am

I am Newman. Some of you know me while others do not. I am the poor guy since he got married and trains at one of those corporate gyms because I am whooped and was given the membership and feels obliged to use it. I started Crossfitting last March after working at Proformance and looking and wondering at what those guys in the back corner of the gym were doing. I always thought, "Hey I could never do that!!". With a little motivation and a lot of shit talking by Dave, Colin, and Darryl I decided to give it a try. It was the best thing I have ever done. My first workout was Fight Gone Bad and I thought I was going to die, but once it was over I felt more accomplishment from a workout then I ever have. The encouragement I got especially from Hubie and my first run of Bear Crawls on the next WOD was unbelievable. The brotherhood and the friends I have made through Crossfit are unparallel. I am still getting after it and I and I am still making progress. I have lost 35lbs and 15% body fat since I have started. You guys changed my world and how I look at everything. I still swing by every now and again just to say hi. It is also kind of funny how you can leave for a while and when you come back it is like things never change.

Introduce Yourself Here! Empty Doc is John Przybylak

Post  Doc Tue Nov 24, 2009 10:58 am

I am not the skinniest crossfitter. I can be found adjusting spines in the Southeast corner of Proformance when everyone else is doing their wods. I continually ruminate about the wod in between taking care of my Proformance patients. I usually coax myself into wod'ding when I'm done and usually there is no one there to giggle at my form, weights or the hairy belly that crawls out from under my shirt when I do anything over head. By day I am a full yime dad and a chiropractor. At night I write.

Although I'm not fully committed to crossfit... yet, I have gained much. The first time I saw the goal posting I went totally Lady Gaga. I posted and hit all my goals that first week, (except knocking up my wife). The accountability has benefitted me enormously and hopefully we can get Annelise a little sibling.

At 44 many of us quit physical fitness. I have always been in shape but after running a marathon in 2000 and crossing the finish line fatter and softer than I have ever been (281lbs), I lost all my inspiration. 8 years later my knees and hips starting paining me and I decided to stay after and work out light on Monday nights. I just was so mesmerized by the crossfit people and the headstand pushups, and mortified. Then I picked Dave's mind a few times and became more frightened. Then I saw the results and the wods and the power moves and tried it out after 6 mos observation. I loved it.

Now I've discovered the bigger effect of the wods on my life. I've set peculiar goals that include L pullups and Headstand pushups. I turn 44 tommorrow; I've dropped 50 pounds since August, I sleep better and have a goal list posted that everyone can see so its accountable. I've searched for a while and I like this niche.

So thats its. Take your Vitamin D daily and cleanse once a week. Fast once a month and take your fish oils if you do not catch your own, grow your own or hunt your food. If I can be of any help to anyone please introduce yourself.

Post  Moe Tue Nov 24, 2009 12:02 pm

Hey I'm Maureen...most of you know me as Moe. I stumbled into Crossfit looking for someone to help my father get into shape. Although I have yet to convince him to take the plunge, one conversation with Dave and I knew I at least had to try it out for myself. I was very curious to know why my friend Jordan had mysteriously disappeared from Gold's Gym, vowing never to return. One workout was all it took...I have not looked back since.

I have gone from a size 6 to a size 0 in just over 2 months...I feel better than I have felt in years...and I could not be more grateful for the incredible people I have met. All this and I am nowhere near any of my actual goals yet! That random goal that everyone starts out with..."i wanna lose x number of pounds"...has gone completely out the window. The things I care about now, getting stronger, faster, more fit in general, doing a pull-up (?!? I never would have believed that was even an OPTION before!!!) are things I would never even have considered in my "past life".

Knowing that I have the unwavering support of Dave and everyone else at Crossfit makes me certain that I will achieve every goal I set for myself from this point on. Thank you to everyone, I can no longer imagine my life without you. Wink

Introduce Yourself Here! Empty Re: Introduce Yourself Here!

Post  Andrew Mon Nov 30, 2009 12:38 am

Hello all, I'm Andrew. I'm currently a physics grad student at UB. I'm a huge nerd, so if anyone has any questions about star trek, dungeons & dragons, math equations, or anything like that, feel free to ask, I'll be happy to discuss at length.

I've been doing crossfit on and off for the past two or three years, most of the time just following along with the main site workouts. My friend and I were having an ongoing discussion on the best long term workout plans, and he sent me an email with the main site link and the URL to a video showing how the cast of 300 used crossfit to become super-jacked Spartan warriors. I was immediately drawn to the program, because I too wanted to look impressive in a loin cloth. After a few hours of going through the vast sources of online information (the main site, videos, the journal, etc), I was sold on program's flexibility and all-encompassing, ever changing daily workouts. It's the Linux of workout programs: open-source and adaptable to anyone's needs.

I joined up with Crossfit Buffalo in August, and in the past three months, in addition to getting humbled by a number of WODs named after girls, I have met a lot of new people and found a home in this group. Coming in and doing the daily WOD with everyone is the thing I look forward to while sitting in class all day. For those of you who are around every week getting your asses kicked with me, thanks. For anybody else who reads this and is thinking about joining up, I can't oversell how great it is to work out with this group and how much progress I've made in the short time being here.

Introduce Yourself Here! Empty Pretty neat..

Post  Diana21 Tue Dec 01, 2009 1:01 am

What to say.. what to say.

I am a 2pm'er and love it.. what a great way to start the day. I am by far the most ridiculous crossfitter you will ever meet..

I can be clumsy, which is sometimes hysterical. But also very focused on my goals. I am currently pursuing a job in Student Affairs and just received my Master's degree in College Student Personnel Administration. I love college, and will be in it forever. While I'm in the field, I plan to study Crossfit and constantly gain new information and experience. One day I hope to open my own. It's my five year plan. I may also have ADD.. not sure about that yet exactly, but it seems that way at times.

My favorite hobbies include pole dancing, which makes me look like I get beaten, but trust me, everyone in my life loves me. You may hear stories, especially if you see me mid week after a lesson. I love listening to music way too loud, generally consisting of metal and techno. I am hyped way too much of the time, but have been told that I sound incredibly tired when I talk.

My goal is to be the best I can be, while attempting to cut out all the junk I consume in my life. And to not be last during every WOD. And after a month, I'm glad to say that I've made consistent progress... being last in the WOD's, not cutting out the junk consumed.

My favorite things in the world are the following:
Cereal
Sushi
Chocolate

All of which I ate today..

But i Looove... (insert food that I'm not supposed to eat here with whinny voice).. haha thanks Dave for making fun of me today.

But I am slowly weening myself onto the Paleo Diet. So as to help my performance. Working on it... currently it's a mental thing.

I am also a HUGE procrastinator.. which is what I'm doing now.. putting off writing a cover letter for Arizona State University.

I need a job like it's nobody's business, but am 100% enjoying life at the moment. It's rare that you won't catch a smile on my face.

Life is amazing and I look forward to everyone that brings it daily. You all are amazing. And I love getting to know all of you. I am definitely an observer, shy at first, so you won't usually catch me making the first move in initial conversation, although, I truly enjoy learning about people.

Much love,

Diana

Introduce Yourself Here! Empty My Name is.....

Post  JG Tue Dec 01, 2009 2:09 am

There is no real me...only an entity, something illusory.. Well with all the nicknames I've garnered at crossfitbuffalo that statement is practically true.

Batman, T-Rex, Bam Bam, George, Jordo, Friend, The Freak, JG.... but Jordan is just fine.

I began crossfit because I simply could not stand another minute at Golds Gym, and I desperately wanted to feel like an athlete again. I found out very quickly that I could be an athlete again but I needed a LOT of work... I had years of zero flexibility, little "cardio" and pounds of globogym muscle I didnt need.

I found my weaknesses at crossfit--- stretching, running, balance, nutrition, tobacco.... and so on.
I also was shown how to approach and defeat all those weaknesses if I wanted to put in the effort. I am not yet an elite athlete and I may never be, but I work hard (until I turn purple), I have friends I will never ever forget or get rid of, and I found a program...a way of life... an outlook... that has seriously changed me for the better. That's a bold statement and I dont use it lightly. CrossfitBuffalo has brought some of the best people into my life, some of the best ideologies and incredibly has helped me with one of my biggest issues... I don't play well with others. So sorry guys and gals for when I'm grumpy.... and thanks so much for always getting me to go when the stopwatch starts. What a Face
